What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?
Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which is how the British Government and early years professionals describe the first few years in your child’s life.
This is a very important stage as it helps your child get ready for formal school as well as preparing them for their future learning and successes. Their early years experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure; and support their development, care and learning needs.

How my child will be learning?
The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:
Communication and language;
Physical development; and
Personal, social and emotional development.

How my child will be learning?
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:
Literacy;
Mathematics;
Understanding the world; and
Expressive arts and design.

Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.

Adapting the curriculum for the UAE
In Rosary School Foundation Stage classes, children also learn Arabic either as native or non-native speakers. Specialised, qualified early years practitioners who are native speakers of Arabic work with the children to develop the children’s speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Arabic. The curriculum content has been carefully chosen and the focus of lessons is upon assisting the children to develop the core skills required in preparation for the Ministry of Education Arabic curriculum commencing in Grade 1.

Adapting the curriculum for the UAE
In order to make the curriculum motivating and engaging for our children, we incorporate local events, activities and celebrations that are relevant to the context of the school. These will typically include Flag Day, Commemoration Day, UAE National Day, UAE Mother’s Day, Hag al Laila and Eid celebrations.
